Contemporary Art Tasmania

Contemporary Art Tasmania is Tasmania’s independent public platform for contemporary and experimental art, professional artists and their audiences. The organisation curates and presents programs around experimental practices in its Hobart gallery space, and partners with public organisations to generate and tour contemporary visual culture in Tasmania and nationally. These dual, core programs are augmented with activities focused on artist development, critical engagement, studio residencies and mentorships that stimulate and support artists and their practice. Artists and audiences can also engage with contemporary ideas through our public and on-line programs.

CAT’s provenance is traceable to Chameleon Contemporary Art Space, founded in 1982, from where it has supported generations of creative thinking, making and people.
